Zoning Verification Letters

Since December 2011 the Department has experienced a 403% increase in the number of zoning verification requests. As a result there has been an increase

in the length of staff review time, which is expected to continue through the months of February and March. Customers should know that all requests will be completed and the requestor will be notified if there are unusual circumstances that will result in a significant delay in issuing the requested letter. For immediate zoning information several self-service resources are available on

City Council Item 

City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the renaming of Mann Weimer Way and Mozley Rise to Weimer Way between Randolph Boulevard and the intersection of East Queens Crown, West Queens Crown, and Pomeroy Circle located in City Council District 10.
The renaming is designed to simplify traffic patterns, enhance public safety, improve emergency response times, and minimize public confusion.

New Information Bulletins  

IB 179 - Residential Water Service Sizing Guide - the purpose of this Information Bulletin is to assist contractors in sizing the water service for residential houses. The IB includes requirements, an example calculation and contact information for questions.

IB 176 - Plumbing Installation/Repairs Requiring Tunneling - the purpose of this Information Bulletin is to clarify the safety provisions regarding under-slab plumbing installations/repairs that may require tunneling to accomplish plumbing drain line repairs, replacements or re-routes. The IB contains a summary of requirements and a series of diagrams for tunnel locations. 

Special Mobile Vending Permits 

City Vendors who are interested in selling snow cones on Alamo Plaza will have the opportunity to participate in an annual lottery drawing process on Thursday, March 22, at 9:30 a.m. at the Central Library Auditorium, located at 600 Soledad. To participate in the lottery, vendors must complete an application and other necessary requirements. 

Vendors can obtain an application for the Downtown Operations Mobile Food Vending Program starting Wednesday, February 22. All vendors interested in participating in the lottery to sell snow cones on Alamo Plaza must apply. Applications will be available at the City of San Antonio's Downtown Operations Department, located at 400 N. St. Mary's St., Suite 100, Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or accessed at http://www.sanantonio.gov/dtops/vending/default.aspx. Applications will only be accepted from Thursday, March 1 through Thursday, March 15 by 4 p.m.

San Antonio Launches Better Block Project 

Spearheaded by the City's Planning and Community Development Department, community volunteers, local artists, architects and urbanists will transform the intersection of East Jones Ave. and Broadway Street into San Antonio's first Better Block on Sunday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is timed to occur during the City's second Siclovia, when Broadway will be closed between McCullough Ave. and Parland Street so that thousands of cyclists, runners, skaters and walkers of every age can enjoy a day of free, outdoor activities. They include pop-up retail shops such as ice cream shops and flower markets, two pop-up art galleries, street musicians, 24 trees, bike lanes and other street markings improving the roadway for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Better Block project is made possible with the help of Peerless Tree Farm and Milberger Nursery who will provide the landscaping, and dozens of volunteers to construct the scene, create art and music, and run the pop-up retail shops. Property owners in the area also agreed to lend their vacant spaces and contribute to bringing more street life to the area.

Organizers chose to introduce the Better Block initiative to San Antonio during the Siclovia in hopes of drawing more traffic to the Better Block site at East Jones and Broadway. The Better Block project is a demonstration of the City's Complete Streets initiative, which aims to enhance choice of mobility, facilitates physical activity and recreation and improves the quality of life, health and safety for all members of a community.
