Location: Kirby, Texas (just far enough from home to feel independent, but close enough to borrow Mom’s laundry machine)

Looking to actually learn something during your internship? Not interested in making coffee and renaming PDF files all summer? Perfect. At Hayden Paving, you won’t just be another name on a spreadsheet — you’ll be in the trenches (sometimes literally), gaining real-world experience that most interns only dream about.

We’re a fast-growing municipal and commercial asphalt paving company based in the San Antonio metro area, and we believe interns should do more, not just watch. You'll be exposed to all facets of construction: estimating, field work, project management, scheduling, customer coordination, and end-of-job budget reviews. It’s like Construction Management 101, but way dustier — and way more fun.

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

• A student pursuing a bachelor’s in civil engineering, construction management, business, or a related field

• Eager to learn, not afraid to get their boots dirty (figuratively and literally)

• Someone who understands that showing up on time is not a superpower — it’s just called being reliable

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (AKA: NOT JUST FILING PAPERWORK):

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers (charm helps, but good communication is key)

• Read and understand plans and specifications (yes, we’ll help you learn — no, you don’t need to memorize all the symbols first)

• Perform quantity take-offs from plans and/or field visits (you’ll know what this means in no time)

• Prepare cost estimates that are accurate enough to impress even the toughest superintendents

• Support both office and field crews through every step of a project

• Help coordinate subcontractors and suppliers like a seasoned pro

• Do some admin tasks — yes, even scanning and copying (we keep it real), but you won’t be stuck behind a desk all day
